Only one percent of American college undergraduates study abroad each year. The Center for International Education offers Frostburg State University students resources to study abroad, expanding their education while gaining an insight into a world that they have little understanding of.
The Center for International Education offers support for those studying abroad, focusing on three areas. The Center offers assistance for students from overseas in obtaining visas, as well as academic support. They also offer support for American students, helping them choose the country they would like to study in as well as obtaining the necessary documents and financial support necessary for studying abroad. The final area is the support of faculty that are interested in overseas experience, helping them obtain financial assistance in order for them to pursue their endeavors.
Tracey Klickman is the newly appointed FSU Director of the Center for International Education. Klickman was chosen after a national search, presumably because of her prevalent experience in the area. She had over twelve years of experience working for three different universities, as well as direct experience in the travel industry. "I am happy to be here and I am looking forward to working with students and staff. There are wonderful opportunities in International Education here at Frostburg," says Klickman.
"Ms. Klickman will provide strong leadership for the center as we welcome an increasing number of international students to our campus and continue to build closer relationships with our partner colleges and universities overseas," FSU Vice Provost John Bowman was quoted as saying.
Klickman believes that there is a common misconception that study abroad is reserved for the wealthy. But students could possibly pay FSU tuition, depending on the country chosen. There are grants and other scholarships available to finance the valuable opportunity. The Center for International Education works directly with students to help them obtain financial aid to pay for their study abroad term. Students can choose to study for one semester or for one year.
