DJ Del Edwards, Frostburg's very own Disc Jockey, sat down this week to talk about his job and how he get started in the music scene. You may have already seen Edwards at work this year providing music for BURG Bash.

Del Edwards started to work as a DJ a couple of years ago on the side. What inspired Edwards to start? He joked about going to house parties and the music just being awful. This sparked the idea of working as a DJ.

"I could do my own thing," Edwards explained.

He went out and made it happen. "My first time was overwhelming," Edwards said. "I was sick and there was no internet for requests. It was frustrating." But, it wasn't long before DJ Dell got the hang of things.

A lot goes into playing for events. There is the task of "reading" the crowd to play the songs they want to hear. What is DJ Dell's go-to song? The Cupid Shuffle.

"It gets the crowd going," said Edwards.

Edwards enjoys his job. He said he likes watching the people dance. The best event Edwards had ever played was calm.

"Everything flowed," he said.

DJ Del Edwards uses a turn table, a mixer and speakers. He also uses a program that deals with picking the tempo of a song.

What could a DJ expect holding this kind of job? For Edwards, replacing equipment can be a hassle.

"Things break. You need a good supply of money to replace them."

Edwards plans on being a DJ until he gets out of college. If you are interested in booking DJ Del Edwards you can contact him at 410-913-3968. Prices vary depending on event size and equipment needed.
