Frostburg State University has resources available to assist its students to make a difference. For some students here, March 15 through March 22 will be a time to seek out opportunities and find their passions while on an alternative spring break.

Spring break 2010 can provide students with a life changing experience. By visiting the Braddock House, located across from Pullen Hall, students can find assistance with their interests. The Braddock House can provide students with resources that assist in the research, planning, and funding of the trip of their choice.

If a student chooses to stay within the United States for their alternative spring break, the Braddock House will provide vans for transportation to and from their site. Through grants, the Braddock House provides the students with funds that aid in the costs of the trip, which include room and board.

Past trips have included Jacksonville, Florida where students worked for Habitat for Humanity; students have also assisted in New Orleans where they helped clean up the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, working at a zoo and helping build a playground in a day. These trips have been a great experience for many students. The students form a bond with each other, making it a lasting experience. Not only are they fun, but they are extremely affordable.

This year's alternative spring break program will provide hands-on experience with the AIDS cause, allowing the volunteers to see for themselves those that are affected by the disease.

Kappa Beta Gamma, a national sorority on Frostburg's campus, supports this year's charity of choice because their philanthropy is also directed towards the HIV/AIDS cause.

Kappa Beta Gamma's Philanthropy Chairwoman Kelsey Bailey said, "I think it's great that Amy Carter is trying to get the campus to devote their time this way. KBG has been working with Camp One Heart camp for children with AIDS for about a year now. It's a great opportunity for the student body to get involved as well."
