A.M.P. (No, not like the kind you drink)
Josh Stinton
Issue date: 10/7/09 Section: Music
I am stoked about Sara Evans coming to Frostburg. Not only is it a chance to see a few young adult females in the Frostburg area riot, but it is also a chance to see their boyfriends toted along to a show they care nothing about. This is going to be hilarious.
If my facetiousness doesn't shock you then perhaps this will--Frostburg has a surprisingly intricate music scene. The University has connections that would make many students from other universities across the U.S. cry themselves to sleep. I cry, on the other hand, thinking that the best we can do is Sara Evans.
But, rest assured young Frostburgians, there's a new guy in the neighborhood. This program is called A.M.P. or Alternative Music Program. Though this program is still in its infancy, its ambitions are very high. The goals of the organization are simple. The organization would like to bring bands to campus on a monthly basis. A.M.P. also aims to bring an alternative to drinking on Friday nights to campus.
Sure drinking is fun, but wouldn't it be great if there was something else to do on a Friday night to make weekends less monotonous? What if Frostburg actually brought diverse artists into the fold instead of artists on the brink of premature extinction?
The organization will be diverse and will be looking for all sorts of music genres to bring to campus, hip-hop, indie rock, metal, punk or whatever may catch your fancy. A.M.P. does not recognize race, creed, color, religion...it is simply a group for the student body to work for the student body and their interests.
