Rebeccah Pruitt
Issue date: 9/30/09 Section: The Pulse
Country music artist Sara Evans will pour her dark, flowing voice out live at the Main Arena in the Cordts PE Center, October 3rd at 8 PM. A native of Missouri, Evans began her career at a club in Columbia, Missouri at just sixteen.
Her singing career quickly skyrocketed to much critical acclaim, including the Academy of Country Music's Female Vocalist of the Year, the Country Music Association's Video of the Year for "Born to Fly," and the 2006 Female Vocalist of the Year in the R&R Reader's Poll. In addition to her musical achievements, she also was elevated to one of People magazine's "50 Most Beautiful People" and enjoyed a place on the TV show Dancing with the Stars.
One of her most avid fans at FSU, Joy Marsiglia, describes how Evans's music is "very, very uplifting, from her lyrics to her actual music." Marsiglia, a double music major, feels that her dark tone "fits country, but isn't twangy," and that Evans is not "strictly country."
Evans has had many No. 1 hits, including "A Real Fine Place to Start," "Suds In The Bucket," "No Place That Far," and "Born to Fly", a song which fans describe as creating a feeling of invincibility. She possess a gold album and two platinum albums, crowned off by her double-platinum album, "Born to Fly."
The accessibility of country music's lyrics and simplistic musicality can appeal to a wide variety of listeners at a very intimate level; Sara Evans's throaty, insightful music will have an opportunity to give this deep musical relationship at Frostburg State University.
Tickets can be attained at the Cultural Events Series in 235 Lane Center or by phone at 301-687-3137.
