Joe Wilson: Racist?
Fabion Seaton
Issue date: 9/23/09 Section: Always Fair, Never Balanced
The radical left has been quick on the draw to call Joe Wilson, the representative from South Carolina a racist. For those that don't know, Joey was the Congressman who had the bright idea to scream, "YOU LIE!" during President Obama's address to Congress.
Following his outburst, Joe Wilson was called many things: a moron, an idiot, rude, classless, and uncouth. But since when has being rude been synonymous with being racist?
In the days following the outburst, there were several bloggers in the blogosphere calling Joe Wilson a racist, but the sources were not credible enough for me to care about their opinions.
I started listening, however, when I read in the Washington Post that former president Jimmy Carter called Wilson a racist. I have no qualms with calling someone a racist. A spade is a spade is a spade is a spade; but throwing around the term racist takes away from the effectiveness of the word. Joe Wilson is not a racist.
Which of these is out of place: David Duke, Derek Vinyard, Adolf Hitler, Joe Wilson. Joe Wilson might be many things, but he is not a racist.
Wilsongate is the epitome of what I hate most about American public policy. Both the left and the right resort to hyperbole in order to win favors with the public. Calling Wilson a racist is no different than the right calling Obama a communist and accusing him of "death panels".
Instead of worrying about working a passable healthcare reform bill, Democrats spent a day censuring Wilson. Wilson received 1.4 million dollars in campaign donations in the days following the event.
Disgusting is the only word that I can use to describe the feeling I get from both the right and the left. Why would anyone support a man who does not have the couth to use the proper communication channels to get his point across to the president? Why is disrespect being rewarded?
That's just it, disrespect, and not racism. Joe Wilson is not a racist America, he's barely a Congressman. Joe Wilson is a jackass, word to Kanye West.

I believe Joe Wilson is a 1st Class Racist; and I believe that he planned his little outburst with the President before hearing the President's speech. (Continued…)

Never in the history of the United States has a lawmaker been so rude and disrespectful of a President. They might have beaten each other up but they always respected the President. (Continued…)

Wilson's actions may have been a little outlandish, but were not motivated by racism. He obviously felt strongly about the issue. At least we have a politician who actually gives a shit about something. (Continued…)
