University Programming Council is responsible for many on-campus events, but one of the most popular are showings of movies in transition from the big screen to DVD. The UPC has a decent track record of receiving movies that did well in theaters. Most recent theater hits of this semester were Pineapple Express, Wall-E, and Indiana Jones. Granted, there have been hits and misses in what UPC does present to Frostburg students for free. The movie College, unfortunately, was one of those misses. This movie is a story about three high schoolers - Kevin, Carter, and Morris - looking to have a blast at college, brought on by the absolutely ludicrous story of one of their schoolmates who spent the weekend with his brother on campus. Drinking, sex, drugs, partying, and no sleep were just a few of the selling points their friend had mentioned. Shortly after this story, it was reminded that Kevin and Morris had planned on touring the campus of Fieldmont, the college the two of them planned to go to together after high school. Why not have a good time as well? It'll be a look into real college life and have an amazing time as well. What could possibly go wrong? The trio set off for the weekend expecting the best of things, and the greatest of times, too bad the majority was spent being terrorized by an entire group of frat guys.
To put it bluntly, the main characters became pledges for the fraternity for the weekend at college they were supposed to be spending learning more about the school and its curriculum. Rather, the time spent was forced to clean the frat house after a huge party, duck taped naked to the school's statue, dragged to a pig farm, and more. But, in the long run, it ended up being nothing more than a rehashed, reused plot line of a dying genre. The high school, college craziness movie scene had reached its peak long ago and now it has become nothing more than a display of more explicit sex, hardcore drinking and drug use, all centered around a heartwarming sap story of the nerdy, loser, or standard nice guy stereotype getting the hot party girl that every guy in the movie has been after.
