As summer is right around the corner and the beach is the popular hangout, people it is time to get into shape. The other day one of my close friends and I were talking and she asked me if she should go on a diet because she is going to Florida for her birthday. Mind you she is already in shape and skinny, my answer to her was that I didn't believe that she needed it. I then advised her that if she wanted to do it than she should. I told her just not to go overboard. This got me to thinking that this would be a good idea for a column to educate others on how to properly get back into shape safely.

When people especially girls go on diets, they sometimes tend to take it to the far extreme which then becomes a danger to your health. Getting back into shape after the winter months is not a problem just knowing when to stop is. When starting to lose weight others may see the changes in you and there is a chance that you do not think it is enough. Anorexia and Bulimia are eating disorders which are popular among Young Adults. This is more popular than it mentioned, at least fifty percent of girls have thought about it or have done it.

There are several good ways of getting back into shape one is to head to the campus gym and lift weights and work out. As the weather is getting warmer it is also a good idea to start running. For those who do not like to work out and think that they should get into shape by snapping their fingers, this won't happen.

Another way to get into shape is eating better, now there are all of these diets out on the market and about three quarters of them do not work. What does work is eating healthier, everyone needs to drink water, which is both good for you but you skin as well. Eat vegetables, a lot of protein, fruits. Things to avoid are fast food, sodas, and greasy foods. This is tough especially since everything on campus seems to be on the list of things to avoid. It is possible though.

The ways not to get back into shape or get skinny are to skip meals, because one would think that this would help lose weight when in actuality it does the opposite. For instance skipping breakfast, as I often do, is not good because eating when you first wake up gets the metabolism going for the day and the later you eat the slower that your metabolism will react for the day. I know it is hard keeping proper eating habits in college but it is necessary to having a good healthy life and a strong body.

The important thing is, not everybody should try and force themselves into trying to get back into shape for the summer. Just be you, it doesn't matter how you look as long as you are comfortable with yourself. If you do decide to get back into shape or lose weight do it the right way.
