In between classes and taking care of personal business over the past couple of weeks I've been able to take a look at some reader questions. As always, I'm always happy to answer your questions so without further adieu here they are.
Q: After blowing a 20 point lead to Clemson, what do you think Maryland's chances are of making the NCAA tournament this year?
-Mike C.
A: I honestly have no earthly idea. I'm inclined to think that they will need a solid showing in the ACC tournament to qualify at this point with the way they've played down the stretch. For what it's worth as of March 7th ESPN's Joe Lunardi has the Terps pegged as a 13th seed in the South bracket. What that means is that they are squarely on the bubble and you might have a better chance of predicting their NCAA fate by flipping a coin.
Q: Has the football team hired a coach yet, and if not why has it taken so long and who do you think will get the job?
-Name Withheld
A: No. The athletic department re-opened the coaching search to applications and the deadline to submit those applications was March 7th. Does that mean we can expect a new coach to be named in the coming weeks? Well, it's possible but I wouldn't be surprised if the search is re-opened with an application deadline of around May 1st. As for the question of who the next coach will be I also have no idea. But who knows Dr. Gibralter might take time out from his Presidential responsibilities to assume play calling duties. There could also be a raffle before every game that randomly selects a fan to coach the team (like in the ill-fated Whoopi Goldberg movie "Eddie"). ESPN could even have a reality show ("Bobcat Fever" perhaps?) that results in the winner being named head coach. Seriously though it's important to realize that Frostburg isn't exactly flush with cash (shocking I know) and can't throw around large sums of money to hire a football coach at this point (which is probably a reason why the search was restarted). So the best thing I can say is to remain patient and that eventually the athletic department will name a coach (maybe?).
