Online vs. LAN

Gamers are very aggressive on the Internet. We tend to become very brave when fights break out. Suddenly, everyone in the server is a tough guy. This is perhaps one of the most negative things about online play when compared to LAN play. It isn't that these gamers genuinely hate each other-they don't even know each other-they just enjoy the drama. There have probably been times when two gamers had gotten into an argument online, gone to the same LAN party, and wound up being good friends. Sadly, this is just the way it works, and it is also one of the reasons for why online gaming falls short to LAN gaming.
So before we start destroying online servers and abolishing online play, let's think about this for a moment. What, if anything, makes online gaming better than LAN gaming? Well, not much really. Online gaming is convenient and tends to favor casual gaming. In fact, the only exercise gamers get when it comes to online gaming consists of trips to the market to get more Mountain Dew. Unfortunately, for the average FSU student gamer, there isn't much offered in the form of LANs or online play. You can thank the network administrators and state security auditors for that. No, really; aren't you more worried about that tricky new AIM virus going around? I almost wish I lived on campus so I could be protected by a billion firewalls!
